LIST PICK

HAZEL ENGLISH THAT THING

Showing no signs of slowing down, Hazel English delivers up another slice of comforting fuzz-pop just thirteen days after the surprisingly upbeat ‘Love Is Dead’ and previous List Pick ‘More Like You’. Her newest track is called ‘That Thing’, and it’s suitably dreamy, hazy and loved-up with English swooning through lines like “I lose control when I’m with you” and “I love it when you do that thing to me.” Whether it’s intended to be sexual or not, you can’t deny there’s something quite seductive about the Australian's drop-tone voice and the heartbeat-style rhythms. The steady bass line keeps the blood pumping throughout ‘That Thing’, while the changing percussion tempos create bursts of intimate intensity. It’s not all out innuendo, that just wouldn’t be English’s approach, but there’s something of the bedroom romance to be taken from this synth-pop song. - HT
